The "New-Centropezn" jazz quartet consists of professional musicians, who graduated from the jazz department of Rostov-on-Don State Conservatoire named after S. Rahmaninov (Russia). Their first meeting took place in 1988 when they studied at the College of Arts. At that time nobody even expected their students’ ensemble to gain such a popularity and success in the future. For 15 years of its existence the Quartet has turned into a highly qualified group. Appreciated both in Russia and abroad. Each of the musicians is an excellent soloist and all of them are a very bright quartet. Here are the most famous of their artistic explorations. 1990 - Andrey Machnev won the III Prize at the I-st All-Russia Contest of Young Jazz Players; 1994 - Gregory Deratsuev won the I Prize. Vitaly Perov and Andrey Machnev won the II Prize at the II All-Russia Contest of Young Jazz Players; 1994 - The Quartet won the V Prize and the title of the Youngest and most Perspective Group at the Evro-Jazz-94 in Brussels, Belgium; 1995 - The Quartet won Grand-Prix and the title of the European Young Jazz Artists of the14th European Contest of Young Jazz Groups in Liverkusen, Germany; 1998 - The Quartet got the title of the Best Group in Audiences opinion at the XXII European Jazz Contest in Getxo, Spain. Besides the abovementioned achievements the "New-Centropezn" jazz quartet participated in a number of All-Russia and International Festivals, which took place in St-Petersburg, Novosibirsk, Krivoi Rog, Soshi... The musicians of the "New-Centropezn" jazz quartet have taken the lead in creating the First Jazz School for children from three till fifteen in Russia, where they work as teachers: Aram Rustamyants is a school director, Andrey Machnev is an artistic director of the children’s Big Band. This school has its own studio A&J Records, where different CD are recorded. The "New-Centropezn" jazz quartet issued three CDs: "Breath-taking Breeze" (1998), "Next Step" (2003) and "Jazz Fairland" (2007). ANDREY MACHNEV
Laureate of international jazz competitions, teacher of Kim Nazaretov Kids Jazz School, saxophonist, teacher, composer, arranger, band leader (art director and chief conductor of kids big band, conductor of Kim Nazaretov municipal Jazz Band). He graduated from the RSRC. He became a member of the jazz quartet in 1988. This quartet has played in Don Band of V.Budarin in the Philharmonia in 1991-1994. He has taken part in international jazz competitions as a member of the jazz quartet since 1994. They are: Euro Jazz 94 in Overice (Belgium); Grand Prix at the XIV European Competition of young jazz ensembles in Livercuzen (Germany, 1995); XII International Competition in Getxo (Spain, 1988). He has been a teacher of the Children Jazz School named after K.A.Nazaretov since 1995. He has been the art director and chief conductor of Kim Nazaretov Municipal Jazz Band since 2001. He combines his pedagogical and administrative work with concert activity. He gives many performances on tours as a member of the jazz quartet New-Centropezn throughout Russia and abroad. They play contemporary jazz standards and his own original jazz compositions in the repertoire.
GREGORY DERATSUEV
Laureate of international jazz competitions, teacher of Kim Nazaretov Kids Jazz School, drummer, teacher. He graduated from the RSRC. He became a member of the jazz quartet in 1988. This quartet has played in Don Band of V.Budarin in the Philharmonia in 1991-1994. He has taken part in international jazz competitions as a member of the jazz quartet since 1994. They are: Euro Jazz 94 in Overice (Belgium); Grand Prix at the XIV European Competition of young jazz ensembles in Livercuzen (Germany, 1995); XII International Competition in Getxo (Spain, 1988). He has been a teacher of the Children Jazz School named after K.A.Nazaretov since 1995. He combines his pedagogical and administrative work with concert activity. He gives many performances on tours as a member of the jazz quartet New-Centropezn throughout Russia and abroad.
ARAM RUSTAMYANTS
Laureate of international jazz competitions, Principal of Kim Nazaretov Jazz Educational Concert Center (JECC), Honoured Worker of All-Union Music Society (Rostov-on-Don), pianist, teacher, composer. He graduated from the RSRC (class of Professor K.A.Nazaretov). He organized jazz quartet in 1988. This quartet has played in Don Band of V.Budarin in the Philharmonia in 1991-1994. He has taken part in international jazz competitions as a member of the jazz quartet since 1994. They are: Euro Jazz 94 in Overice (Belgium); Grand Prix at the XIV European Competition of young jazz ensembles in Livercuzen (Germany, 1995); XII International Competition in Getxo (Spain, 1988). He has been the head of Children Jazz School named after K.A.Nazaretov since 1995. He was appointed Principal of Kim Nazaretov Jazz Educational Concert Center (JECC) in 2001. He combines his pedagogical and administrative work with concert activity. He gives many performances on tours as a member of the jazz quartet New-Centropezn throughout Russia and abroad. They play contemporary jazz standards and his own original jazz compositions in the repertoire. He is an initiator of International Jazz Festival Kim Nazaretov Concert Centre, held in Rostov since 2003.
VITALY PEROV
Laureate of international jazz competitions, teacher of Kim Nazaretov Kids Jazz School, bass player, teacher. He graduated from the RSRC. He became a member of the jazz quartet in 1988. This quartet has played in Don Band of V.Budarin in the Philharmonia in 1991-1994. He has taken part in international jazz competitions as a member of the jazz quartet since 1994.
