Lagáno – the slogan of this year’s festival – perfectly captures the spirit as the 28th edition of the Novi Sad Jazz Festival approaches. From 3 to 5 July, Novi Sad will become the centre of jazz, welcoming more than 80 performers, including some of the biggest names on the international scene – Avishai Cohen, Joe Lovano, Antonio Faraò, Francesca Tandoi, and many others. With stages set across the city centre, audiences will enjoy more than 35 hours of music in open-air venues.
The Biggest Stars at the Summer Cinema Stage – Tickets Available
The Summer Cinema of the Cultural Centre of Novi Sad (Letnji bioskop) will host some of the festival’s headline concerts. On 3 July at 8:30 p.m., one of the most acclaimed contemporary jazz musicians, Avishai Cohen, will take the stage. On 4 July, also at 8:30 p.m., Grammy Award winner Joe Lovano will perform alongside one of Europe’s leading jazz pianists, Antonio Faraò. The festival concludes on 5 July with one of the brightest stars of the European jazz scene, Francesca Tandoi, whose concert begins at 8 p.m. Tickets are required only for these concerts and are available at Gigstix ticket outlets and online. Admission to all other festival programmes is free.
The Full Diversity of Jazz at Catholic Porta
The stage at Catholic Porta will host performances every evening from 7 p.m. On 3 July, the programme opens with the instrumental ensemble Deep Steady, followed by Jazzysad, one of the pioneers of blending electronic and jazz music in the Balkans, at 9 p.m., while internationally acclaimed trumpeter Milena Casado takes the stage at 10:30 p.m. On 4 July, the evening begins with the regional jazz group QuadBones at 7 p.m., followed by DJ Jazzysad at 9 p.m., while Emma Smith, winner of the prestigious Parliamentary Jazz Award, performs at 10 p.m. On the festival’s final evening, 5 July, the Bojan Cvetković Quartet opens the programme at 7 p.m., followed by one of Europe’s leading jazz drummers, the Vladimir Kostadinović Quartet, at 9 p.m.
Laze Telečkog and Njegoševa Streets Bring Jazz Together with Other Genres
On 3 July, the stage in Laze Telečkog Street opens at 7 p.m. with guitarist Boris Hložan Sextet, followed by the instrumental ensemble Bullet for a Badman at 9 p.m., while the eclectic band Funk Shui closes the evening at 11 p.m. At the same time, the stage in Njegoševa Street will feature the Valeriia Shurgalina Quartet from 7 p.m. On 4 July, Spare Cats open the programme in Laze Telečkog at 7 p.m., followed by the Macedonian band Foltin at 9 p.m., while the artistic DJ collective White City Soul closes the evening at 11 p.m. In Njegoševa Street, the Anđela Koruga Quartet performs from 7 p.m. On the final festival day, 5 July, the programme in Laze Telečkog begins earlier, at 5 p.m., with DJ KATALINA / Daughter of the Sun, while Afro Gitano closes the stage with a performance at 8:30 p.m. The Tanja Senić Quartet will perform in Njegoševa Street from 7 p.m.
Celebrating 100 Years Since the Birth of Miles Davis
To mark the 100th anniversary of the birth of Miles Davis, one of the most influential musicians of the 20th century, the Novi Sad Jazz Festival presents the Miles Davis Listening Room – a space dedicated to music, attentive listening, and the rich history of jazz. Every day from 6 p.m., visitors to the Fine Arts Salon of the Cultural Centre of Novi Sad (Likovni salon) will have the opportunity to slow down and immerse themselves in the unique experience of listening to carefully selected Miles Davis albums on vinyl.
