IGOR MOLNAR, bass, double bass

Bass guitarist, double bass player and composer Igor Molnar was born in Novi Sad in 1965. After completion of his high school education at Music School “Isidor Bajić”, he studied composition in class of Prof. Rudolf Brucci and Prof. Miroslav Štatkić. In 1991 he started studying jazz music at the academy “Franz Lizst” in Budapest. Upon graduation in 1995, he returned to Novi Sad to work as the editor of programme called “Jazz Impuls” on “NS+” television channel and the conductor of the Vojvodina Youth Big Band. From 1997 to 1999 Igor Molnar worked as an editor of music programmes at the Cultural Centre of Novi Sad, founded a small jazz festival called “Jazztime Fest” and the first jazz school under the patronage of the Soros Open Society Foundations. In the same period he also led his group Havana Jam with Madagascan singer and percussionist Jeanot Randimbiarison. Since 2002 he has been leading jazz workshops of SMS “Isidor Bajić” and collaborating with a number of international and national jazz musicians. Many students of this class have continued their studies of jazz at music academies throughout Europe. He works for the YALE SMNUniversity and is a jazz instructor licensed by the British Royal College of Music. With his own bands, as an author and performer, Igor Molnar has appeared at numerous major jazz events in Serbia and the countries of the region. He is currently leading his own band The Round Midnight Quartet, which fosters post-bop style and the project City Raiwalker.

 

VOJISLAV SAVKOV, saxophone

Vojislav Savkov, a saxophonist, born on 12th January 1962 in Novi Sad, is a well-known and recognised musician in the domestic jazz circles.

He has played with almost all jazz musicians of Novi Sad, with musicians from Serbia as well as from other European countries, always ready for cooperation and dedicated to discovering new musical knowledge. Voja Savkov has travelled all over the East and Latin America through the mind and the body of a spiritual traveller. He shares his experiences through words, music and meditative presence of his existence.

 

FILIP ČAPO, piano

Filip Čapo is a piano teacher at Music School “Petar Konjović” in Sombor. He has been a member of The Novi Sad Youth Jazz Orchestra since 2013 and the keyboardist in the jazz fusion band City Rainwalker, founded by Igor Molnar. He got interested in jazz when he was a teenager and has been diligently exploring jazz music for five years now. Furthermore, he started composing and producing his own compositions this year. His current focus is on gaining knowledge about music production and his goal is to discover his own style and way of expression.

Educational background:He obtained his Bachelor’s Degree in piano at the Academy of Arts in Novi Sad in 2010 where he studied under Professor Svetlana Bogino. During his studies, he regularly held recitals, participated in competitions and won many prizes. Later, he continued his studies at the Faculty of Music Art in Belgrade and received his Specialization degree in 2012. During his Specialization studies, he performed the Concerto In F For Piano and Orchestra by George Gershwin for his final exam. Not long after that, he participated in the Summer Jazz Academy where he gained his first experience in playing in an ensemble. There, at the workshop, he met some of the musicians who were part of The Novi Sad Youth Jazz Orchestra and was invited to join them. From then on, he has actively participated in the Summer Jazz Academy almost every year. He is inspired by jazz pianists such as Oscar Peterson, Red Garland, Erroll Garner, Brad Mehldau, Chick Corea and Gonzalo Rubalcaba.

 

NENAD KOJIĆ, drums

Born in Novi Sad on 19th January 1985, upon completing his primary music education in piano, Nenad started exploring music, drums and percussions. Several years later, he met the renowned professor of percussions Miroslav Karlović, with whose help he encountered the roots of percussion instruments. He started his music career when he was not yet 18. The “Berklee Summer School” declared him the Best Drummer of the 2005 summer school in Perugia. Composing and arranging mark every inspiring moment of his life. Studying sound, sound effects and phenomena, foley art with speech apparatus, after gaining the diploma and the title of a Sound Design Engineer from the Drama Academy in Novi Sad, he came up with the idea and patented his own hybrid instrument Neshtophone which he uses and presents in the group Mr. Baloon. He has collaborated with: The Dortmund Big -Band (conducted by Uwe Platt), Goethe Institute Big Band (conducted by Peter Herbolzmeier) NS Brass Orchestra (conducted by Fedor Vrtačnik), Perugia-Berklee Ensemble (conducted by Mark White), Ballet “Jezik zidova”, Igor Molnar Quartet, Interplay, Space Umbrella, Mayoke Group, Mr. Balloon, Aleksandra Radović, Saša Vasić, Petar Jelić, Vlado Georgiev, Zafir Hadžimanov, Bisera Veletanlić, Fipa, The Blues Hammer, Blues Halters, Tanja Jovićević, Tijana Bogićević, Shanene, Billy The King, Milacopezzo, Zoran Šandorov, Maja Odžaklijevska, Sergej Ćetković, Jelena Tomašević, Slobodan Trkulja, IQ Band, Azil5, Bane Krstić, Studio Alektik, Cveta Majtanović, Madam Piano, Aleksandar Dujin, Vladimir Samardžić trio, Zdravko Čolić… He has composed the soundtrack for the film “Liftovi jedu ljude” and created sound and sound effects for the theatre play “Parastos u belom” directed by Petar Jovanović.
