“Hedy Lamarr”
band exists since November 2001. It deals with
author music of very original character, which represents a fusion
of modern jazz of today and archetypal picture of Balkans. Besides
original music “Hedy Lamarr” band has in its repertoire a great
number of remakes of famous jazz compositions that they, filtered
trough original and recognisable sound, present in clubs and on
festivals. |

MARKO
LABAT
Born in 1974 in Novi Sad. During primary music school became more
interested in blues and latter jazz. Finished
“Isidor Bajic” Music high school, Department of theory and piano, in
Novi Sad and afterwards started learning and playing
jazz. Due to the circumstances of lacking jazz
musicians in Novi Sad, he played with the group of musicians form
Belgrade, until recently he got to know people with the same
interests in his own surrounding. At this
moment he plays with several bands, but two of them, MiMaYo3 and
Hedy Lamarr perform publicly. As a studio
musician he recorder several times (Lost Propelleros, Hedy
Lamarr…) He underwent music influences of Joe
Zawinul (Weather Report), Chick Corea, Miles Davis, Herbie Hancock,
Oscar Peterson, Jaco Pastorius. Currently
preparing his own material.
NENAD VOJNOVIC
He was born in 1973 in Novi Sad. Finished Gymnasium in Sremski
Karlovci and currently finishing Academy of economy in Novi
Sad. He gathers music knowledge on private
lessons of harmony and bass guitar. At the beginning of 1990-es
found his firs important band named “Katarza” where he composes
music. With “Katarza” he collaborated for five years, recorded two
studio albums and promoted them at many live performances. After
disintegration of “Katarza” he joined club band “Dear Sheldon”, with
witch he plays over 300 concerts – playing remakes of various music
styles from pop, rock and funk to acid jazz.
He
is one of founders of “Hedy Lamarr Band” that deals with authentic
author’s music of very original character, that synthesise modern
jazz with “genetic”, archetypal picture of Balkans. Besides that
band’s repertoire contains remakes of famous jazz compositions,
profiled with their own original sound that is successfully
presented at club performances and jazz festivals.
ISTVAN CIK
He was born in 1978 in Novi Sad, Yugoslavia. In 1993 he gets his
first set of drums on witch he begins to know the world of rhythm.
During 1995, due to the lucky circumstances, he gets connected with
local jazz bands and starts his active participation at the Novi Sad
jazz scene. During the following period of a few years he played
with bands as Safara, Havana Jam, Kat ´n Kat, Lost Propelleros,
Silencio. Currently plays in jazz band Hedy Lamarr. During 1998 he
played percussion in accordion orchestra in KUD “Sonja Marinkovic”,
participated in performing Carl Orf's cantata “Carmina Burana”
together with big orchestra of “Isidor Bajic” music school and
played percussion in Mezei Silard's compositions for shows
“Ogledalo” and “Pripitomljavanje” that were played in Novi Sad
theatre. Collaborated with famous artists and musicians such as
Aleksandar Dujin, Slobodan Trkulja, etc. During the last three years
he intensively collaborates with the composer Boris Kovac and
LADAABA Orchest, with whom he had notable concerts in and out side
of the country, as well as participated at large festivals such as:
Ring Ring Festival 2001 (Belgrade, Yugoslavia), Interzone Festival
2001 (Novi Sad, Yugoslavia), Pepsi Sziget Festival 2001 (Budapest,
Hungary), Festival Alternativa 2001 (Prague, Chec Republic), Alfred
Festival 2001 (Oslo, Norway), World Music festival 2001 (Niigata,
Japan), Moers Jazz Festival 2002 (Moers, Germany), DUNYA Festival
2002 (Rotterdam, Holland), 12. Europäisches Festival 2002
(Recklinghausen, Germany), International Donau Fest 2002 (Ulm,
Germany).
DEJAN ZARKOV
Born in 1974 in Novi Sad, where he finished music high school.
Currently works as a member of Novi Sad fire
brigade. He started playing guitar at the age of
fourteen and has been into music since. Until the age of eighteen
plays original, instrumental and rock music in “Corto Maltese” band.
After he served the army, continues to intensively play remakes of
pop music in Novi Sad cafes and simultaneously finishes the course
for sound recording technician at Radio Novi Sad. He mets bass
player Ljubisa Matic in Temerin and with him gets to learn more
about jazz. Starts playing jazz classics and makes his own band with
guitar player Darko Seguljev from Srbobran. Today, besides his
profession he plays with Hedy Lamarr quintet.
LJUBISA PONJEVIC
He was born in 1978 in Backa Palanka, Yugoslavia. In his early age
he already shows great interest for music. After finishing music
primary school in Backa Planka, he finishes High music school
“Isidor Bajic” in Novi Sad, and is currently studying at the Novi
Sad Academy of Arts, at the Dept. of general music
pedagogy. During high school he played with
different rock bands and at the Academy he meets various musicians
from all over Yugoslavia and founds the funk-acid-jazz band
“Inuendo”. With that band he successfully performs for the next two
years. Closely after that he starts collaboration with jazz-fusion
band “Safara”, playing various funk-jazz remakes. A year latter he
starts collaboration with “Colibri” band and makes his first
independent audio publication. Currently
plays with several bands “Colibri”, “Dear Sheldon” and “Hedy
Lamarr”. Band “Hedy Lamarr” besides original author’s music, also
interprets remakes of well known jazz
compositions. |
