WORKSHOP ON REAL TIME COMPOSITION TECHNIQUES AND DIFFERENT APPROACH FOR IMPROVISATION -Open to all instruments!

Real Time Composition Techniques and Different Approach for Improvisation is designed for students, teachers, and music professionals who wish to participate in interactive lessons on the importance of spontaneous composition, and different possibilities of how to use construction and the alteration of musical structures creatively. During class sessions we will interpret and compose musical forms in various musical styles.

TOPICS

1. The rhythm.

2. Motif development, and resolution of musical phrase.

3. Introduction to Contemporary Jazz Composition

4. Ear training toward atonality as a tool to improvise

1. Vital importance of rhythm

These classes will emphasize the importance of the downbeat, upbeat, and rhythmic modulation in different contexts, binary and ternary. The teacher will analyze and transcribe examples of different approaches, which clearly illustrate these differences. The teacher will also work on creating rhythm and irregular use of rhythm within bars, such as 5/4, 7/4, 9/4, 11/8, long beats, short and different rhythmic subdivisions within these structures.

2. The motif development and resolution of phrases

This topic will be focused on learning to hear and controlling their own musical ideas exposed in the class, and how to develop and resolve them through musical structures established or created spontaneously.

3. Introduction to Contemporary Jazz Composition

With a rhythm section or accompaniment, students will interpret their own original material, followed by interpretation of standards, or collective improvisation in real time using the topics given in class.

4. Ear training toward atonality as a tool to improvise

In these classes we will study symmetrical and asymmetrical harmonic structures, and

non-functional step chords. Also applied to the study of retrograde harmonic and melodic movements, and alternative ways to develop improvisation in a creative way.
