The Jazz Youth of Vojvodina Big Band, established in May 2012, is an association consisting of a large number of young musicians and jazz lovers from Novi Sad and other parts of Vojvodina. The main aim of the organisation is the development of the local jazz scene and popularisation of this music genre among the young. It focuses its activities on providing support to young jazzmen, organising concerts of the local bands, and cooperating with similar organisations from Serbia and abroad. A very important result of the association’s activities is the formation of the Big Band of the Jazz Youth of Vojvodina, which gathers about twenty promising young musicians led by conductor Nemanja Mihailović. The Big Band’s repertoire is based on the contemporary main stream jazz, and includes pieces of the great composers of the swing era, as well as compositions written by contemporary domestic jazz authors.
