Born in 1947
in Vukovar, Croatia. For last 25 years taking part of European and
American jazz scene (California jazz fest., Los Angeles, Monterey,
Sacramento, Montreux, Berlin, Bologna). Performed with the most
significant jazz artists like Bosko Petrovic, Dusko Goykovich,
Stjepko Gut, Petar Ugrin, Art Farmer, Stan Getz, N.H.Oe. Pedersen,
Albert Mengelsdorf, Tony Coy, Gary Burton, Sal Nistico, Ferdinand
Powel, Gianni Basso, Richard Davis, Joe Pass, Dave Libman etc.
Played for three times in the EBU Big Band. Since 1975 member of Big
Band RTV Slovenia. Discography: more than 30 jazz CDs and
LPs. |

Already 25
years at the top of Yugoslav jazz scene, Uros Secerov had the
privilege to work with most famous jazz artist of nowadays like
Stjepko Steve Gut, Ratko Divjak, late Joze Privsek, Bubisa Simic,
Stevan Radosavljevic and many others. During his career he
played with all Big Band Orchestra at the ex Yugoslav territory,
making the special arrangements with RTV Ljubljana, Novi Sad and
Belgrade Big Bands. He was playing in Vojislav Brkovic Quintet and
latter with MEDAYA, cult band of the 80-es with Wolfgang Reisner and
Beat Fuhrer. With Ratko Divjak, Lado Jaksa and Dani Gancev he played
in SONCNA POT group who, for the first time, introduced ethno jazz
elements fusion in our extent. After that he played in Lala Kovacs
BALKAN IMPRESSION, YU JAZZ ROCK SELECTION, JOVAN MALJOKOVIC SEXTET,
YU JAZZ SUMMIT, VOYA BEE – JIMI HENDRIX PURE, TONY SCOT ORCHESTRA
… Recently his main occupation is YUPIKA
QUINTET with Ivan Aleksijevic, Bunford Gabor, Istvan Madjaric and
Dusan Ivanisevic, which is concerned by critics to be big support to
Yugoslav jazz scene after GUT-MARKOVIC SEXTET, as well as the first
representative of Yugoslav jazz school.
Besides his
concert activity, he recorded over 30 albums for different
performers as studio musician, played at all relevant jazz festivals
in Europe and recorded shows and concerts for home and foreign TV
and radio stations. |

player Primoz Grasic was born in 1968 in Kranj, Slovenia. After high
school in Kranj he went abroad and studied guitar at the Klagenfurt
Conservatoire. Very soon jazz bands and orchestras became aware of
the young but very talented musician and so after his studies he
immediately became a member of the “Greentown Jazz Band”. He was
then cooperating with the “Dixieland” band from Kranj. His music
career flourished after this and we can only share his biggest
achievements with you. In the years 1991–93 he was a member of the
“Ugrin-Divjak Quintet” and has regularly been cooperating with the
“Big Band of RTVS” (Radio Television Slovenia) since 1992 he is also
a member of “Bosko Petrovic's All Stars Band”, of “Ratko Divjak's
Ensemble”, the “Dominik Kranjcan Quartet”, “SLO Jazz Project” and
has been cooperating as a studio musician at many recordings of such
bands as the “Big Band RTVS”, the “Big Orchestra” and the “Symphonic
Orchestra of RTVS”, the “New Swing Quartet”, “Vocal Art”, “Alenka
Godec”, “Darja Svajger”, “Janez Boncina”, “Marta
Zore”… In 1998 he has been a full-time member
of “Big Band RTV Slovenia” and the “Big Orchestra of RTV
Slovenia”. In cooperation with Janez Boncina-Benc
he has received two awards for his arrangements from International
Professional Juries. In 1995 he was nominated for the musical award
“Zlati Petelin” (Golden Rooster) for the best arrangement of a
foreign song. He was then cooperating with the “Joze Privsek
Orchestra” at concerts in Portoroz and in Ljubljana’s “Cankarjev
Dom” and also as a studio musician at their recordings of more than
sixty albums. In July 1993 he was performing at one of the biggest
jazz festivals in Europe, in Perrugia, Italy. On his own and as a
member of the “Greentown Jazz Band” in the “B.P. Club All Stars”, he
was performing at jazz festivals all over America, Canada, Germany,
Switzerland, England, Ireland, France, Italy, the
Netherlands… In October 1994 he was performing in
Amsterdam as a member of the “EBU Big Band”, under the leadership of
Jerry van Roojen and Henk Meutgeert, together with many different
musicians such as N.H.O. Pedersen, Martin Drew, Alvin Queen, Gianni
Basso, Toots Thielemans, Jimmy Woode, Clark Terry, Dusko Goykovich,
Steve Gut, Bosko Petrovic, Csaba Deseo, Jesse Davis, Bobby Durham,
Massimo Farao, Curtis Fuller, Dado Moroni, Manfred Josel, Evald
Oberleitner, Tone Jansa, Red Halloway, Steve Swallow, Dennis
McCrell, Ed Thigpen, Ray Brown, Helen Merrill, Gary Burton, Bruce
Adams, Peter Mihelich, Mark Elf, Lasse Lindgren, Petar Ugrin,
Mornington Locket, David Gazarov, Richard Buckley, Ratko Divjak, Lew
Solloff, Alan Skidmore, Nigel Hitchcock, George Makinto, Fritz
Pauer… As a member of the “Big Band of RTV
Slovenia” he has been cooperating with a variety of conductors such
as: Peter Herbolzheimer, Herb Pomeroy, Jerry van Roojeen, David
Deviliere, Walter Proost, Maria Schneider, Mathias Ruegg and the
guests Ack van Roojen, Gary Burton, Johnny
Griffin… In June 1995 he was a guest at the “Jazz
Cruise” on ship AZUR under the leadership of the trumpet player
Clark Terry, with such musicians as Ray Brown, Ed Thigpen and Curtis
Fuller. Under the name “Primoz Grasic Trio” he
recorded a CD with N. Pedersen and M. Drew in 1995 in Zagreb. The
record was nominated as the best jazz record of 1995 in
Croatia. In July 1996 he performed at the
“European Jazz Night” in a trio with the well-known bassist Steve
Swallow and the drum player Dennis McCrell. In June 1997 he
performed with the “EBU Big Band” in Ljubljana as a representative
of Slovenia with Joze Privsek as its conductor. After that at a jazz
festival in a trio with Steve Swallow and Ratko Divjak. In the same
year he received the two highest Slovene music awards (“Zlati
Petelin 97”) in the field of jazz for the record “Noc ima tisoc oci”
(A night has a thousand eyes) – “Primoz Grasic
Quartet”. In October 1997 he recorded a CD for the
publishing house JAZZETTE in cooperation with two other famous
European guitar players Ulf Wakenius and Phillip Chaterine, with
Pedersen and Drew as the rhythm section.
In April
1998 he performed in Italy as a member of the “Grasic-Ugrin Quintet”
with David Gazarov as its guest, and was a guest at the “Zagreb
Festival” in the same month. In July he performed in the same cast
at a jazz festival in Ljubljana. In October 1998 he performed at the
Jazz festival in Cork, Ireland as a member of the "B.P. All Stars
Band" and in Sarajevo in the November.
In November
1999 he was cooperating with Fritz Pauer as a member of the “Happy
Reunion Quartet”. In January 1999 he cooperated at the
recording of Ratko Divjak's album “Caravan”; in April of the same
year he was co-working at Dominik Krajncan's “Bab'n'gabn Record” and
in May on the album “Hunski hrbti” of the “Big Band RTV Slovenia”
under the leadership of Milko Lazar. At the 1999
“Ljubljana jazz festival” he performed as a member of the “Big Band”
under the leadership of Maria Schneider and in August as a member of
the “Heineken Tour” with George Makint.
In the
beginning of October 1999 he performed in Zagreb as a guest of the
“Big Band” of Damir Dicic and was a guest of the festival in Ireland
– Cork with “B.P. All Stars” and Lew Soloff at the end of October
1999. In March 2000 he was working together
with the well-known English saxophone players Alan Skidmore and
Nigel Hitchcock. In June 2000 he recorded CD "MY WISH"
with smooth-jazz music. |

Ales Avbelj
was born 1969 in Ljubljana, Slovenia. First he studied clarinet for
10 years, at age 15 on high school he started to play double bass,
which became his main interest later. He started his professional
career in various casual bands. In 1994 he joined Greentown Jazz
Band for a few years and took many European and American tours. As
comprehensive musician playing both electric and acoustic bass he
collaborate with many eminent domestic and foreign jazz musicians as
well (Petar Ugrin, Peter Mihelich, Renato Chicco, Dominik Krajncan,
James Morrison, Lee Harper, Dusko Goykovich, Gregory Hutchinson,
David Gazarov). Since 1997 he is a premier bassist of the Big Band
RTV SLOVENIA and has been cooperating with variety of artists such
as Herb Pomeroy, Jerry van Roojeen, Walter Proost, Maria Schneider,
Mathias Ruegg, Mike Westbrook, Fritz Pauer, Bobby Shew, Gary Burton.
As a sideman he appears on dozens of recordings from jazz to pop
music. |
