SABINA HANK was born
in 1976 in Salzburg. As a five-year-old girl with perfect pitch
she attended the Mozarteum College, where she received classical
piano training for 13 years. She studied Jazz Piano and Vocals
at the Bruckner Conservatory, Linz. She has led two bands: "The
Sabina Hank Trio" (with Alex Meik and Christian Diener on
bass and Stephan Eppinger and Wolfgang Tozzi on drums) and 'The
Sabina Hank Orchestra'. As a sidewoman she has worked with Maria
Schneider ('La Vilette' - the jazz festival in Paris, 1997), Werner
Pirchner, Beni Schmid, Albie Donelly ("Supercharge"),
Jimmy Carl Black (Frank Zappa), Lynne Kieran, Tini Kainrath (rounder
girls), Anca Parghel, Garry Dial, etc. Some of the festivals and
concert places where she has performed are: the Jazz Festival
in Mexico City (2003), the Jazz Festival Rabat in Morocco (2003),
the Jazz Festival in Copenhagen, Denmark (2003), the Sibiu Jazz
Festival Romania (2002), the European Jazz Festival in Athens
(2002), the Konzerthaus Vienna (2000); the European Vocal Summit
Festival in Prague & Bratislava (2000); La Vilette Jazz Festival
in Paris (1997), the Jazzherbst in Salzburg (2001), the St-Art-Festival
in Salzburg (1999) , the Grosser Saal des Mozarteums in Salzburg
(1997) etc. She has also composed for film - the soundtrack with
Werner Pirchner for the movie "Untersuchung an Maedeln"
(Austria) in 1998, and the soundtrack for "Tatort" (Germany)
in 1999; as well as for theatre - the "Schauspielhaus Bochum"
(Germany) for "Carmen" (director Leander Haussmann)
in 1998; the "Volkstheatre Vienna" (Austria) for "Talisman"
(director Michael Schottenberg) in 2001, which was very well received
by critics: "The production of Michael Schottenberg at the
Volkstheatre Vienna is the highlight of the Nestroy-Year, primarily
because of the music of Sabina Hank." (Der Standard, 2001).
She won prizes at the "Jugend Musiziert" contest (1987,
1991) in Austria, the Steinway-Contest (1990), and the first prize
for the composition scholarship of Salzburg (1998). Her style
is described as "
quiet and intensive
shining and
powerful. A style and color that has to be experienced",
in a review of her 'Blue Moments'. It goes on to say, "Jazz
has always adapted to new styles without sacrificing its long
tradition. And Sabina Hank is bringing an entirely new palette
of colors and shades to the world of jazz." (Quinton,
2001.)
ALEX MEIK was born in
1966 in Austria. He received his classical music education at
the Mozarteum College (Salzburg), the Music College in Graz and
the Bruckner Conservatory in Linz (jazz). He has worked with Ray
Charles, Andy Middleton, Hans Söllner, Ray Anderson, Bob
Mintzer etc.

Milt Jackson, Bart van Lier, Tilo Wolf, Barbara Dennerlein, Jim

"
that drummer doesn't clatter, he plays with magnificent
timing. Be it Mainstream or Bebop, Modern Jazz or Fusion, even
in the field of Pop Music, Stephan Eppinger vouches for a solid,
swinging accompaniment and for very musical, virtuosic solos."
(Sueddeutsche, 1992)
